Social Action | Mid East INTERFAITH CALL FOR PEACE
Dear Friends,
There has been a growing community concern about the Gaza crisis that calls for an end to the violence while expressing our anguish for both the Israeli and Palestinian peoples.
Boston-area Muslim, Christian, and Jewish leaders have jointly written a statement calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and expressing our desire to demonstrate that during these most difficult of times we are prepared to stretch our hands out to each other.
Read AN INTERFAITH DECLARATION FOR PEACE with a listing of the initial signers.
Following is some of the commentary about the declaration.
The declaration received excellent coverage in the Boston Globe on Tuesday, January 13.
Read a statement on the Interfaith Declaration for Peace by Mark J. Pelavin, Associate Director of the Religious Action Center and Director on Interreligious Affairs of Reform Judaism.
Here's what the Arthur Waskow at the Shalom Center said.
CommonGroundNews published an article about the declaration.
The Hunger Site, an international web-based charity, asked to post the declaration and added their own comments about it.

After the declaration was drafted, Boston Workmen's Circle helped organize a silent INTERFAITH VIGIL on Tuesday, January 13, at Park Street Station in downtown Boston to make the declaration public and stand shoulder to shoulder with members of Boston’s Muslim, Jewish, and Christian communities. Signs used in the vigil were drawn from the interfaith statement, and other signs and political activity were discouraged in order to maintain a respectful atmosphere. The Boston Globe also gave this vigil positive coverage through a photograph and caption.
This effort is being organized by a wide range of activists from each faith group. Boston Workmen’s Circle has offered to serve as the contact for logistics. For up to date information go to www.circleboston.org; for questions email info@circleboston.org.
In a related vein, you may wish to also sign the J-Street petition on supporting a just solution to the current crisis. Read about it here.
