Mothers’ Day Walk for Peace

May 12 @ 8:00 am - 10:00 am

Description

We are gathering a BWC team to walk in the 28th annual Mothers’ Day Walk for Peace, sponsored by the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute in Dorchester.  The Walk is on Sunday, May 12 (Mothers Day), 8:00 – 10:00 am and will be a 4.3 mile loop, beginning and ending at Town Field Park in Dorchester.  This is a family event, and can be a meaningful way to help celebrate Mothers’ Day.

Last year, BWC was represented by about 25 walkers, joining several thousand people from faith organizations, healthcare organizations, and community groups in this spirited collective endeavor. We aim to match last year’s successful fundraising, in which we exceeded our initial $1500 goal to reach $2200 in donations.

The Peace Institute was founded by Dorchester resident Chaplain Clementina Chéry to honor her teenage son Louis D. Brown, who was murdered in the crossfire of street violence.  The Walk is the major fundraiser for the Institute, whose mission is to serve as a center of healing, teaching, and learning for families and communities impacted by murder, trauma, grief, and loss.
