The world is in distress and sending urgent calls for help! On May 4th we invite you to lift your spirits with the power of music.

A Besere Velt, the vibrant intergenerational Yiddish Chorus of Boston Workers Circle, is excited to announce a spring concert featuring two of the most significant performers of Yiddish music, Judy Bressler and Hankus Netsky. They are founding members of the internationally renowned Klezmer Conservatory Band and leaders in the klezmer music revival.

Judy Bressler, a third generation performer and vocalist, is one of the most renowned interpreters of Yiddish song in our time, featured on all 10 Klezmer Conservatory Band CDs and was seen in the PBS documentary A Jumpin’ Night In The Garden Of Eden. Being part of Itzhak Perlman’s In The Fiddler’s House tours since 1996, she has performed at Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, San Francisco Symphony Hall and Boston Symphony Hall.

Hankus Netsky, a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and ethnomusicologist, is co-chair of New England Conservatory’s Contemporary Improvisation Department and director of the Klezmer Conservatory Band. He has composed extensively for film, theater, and television and collaborated on major creative projects with Itzhak Perlman, Robin Williams, Joel Grey, Theodore Bikel, and Robert Brustein. 

Derek David has been Music Director of A Besere Velt since 2018. An accomplished composer, conductor, and music educator, Derek’s music has been performed in Europe and throughout the United States. With degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the New England Conservatory, he is currently Lecturer in Music at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
