Taste of Yiddish: Klezmer Music Class

May 29 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Description

Calling all instrumentalists! Want to learn how to play klezmer? Already know some tunes and want to expand your repertoire? Join fiddler Rebecca Mac of Mamaliga for a class in klezmer music. Each class, participants will learn a tune or two by ear, with lots of practice and repetition. In addition to teaching tunes, Rebecca will share information about style and ornamentation in klezmer music. All instrumentalists are welcome. No knowledge of klezmer is required, though basic familiarity and comfort on your instruments is recommended.

This class will meet on three Wednesdays– May 15, and 29 and June 5th–at 7:30 pm-9:00 pm at the Boston Workers Circle building. Participants are also encouraged to join us for an open klezmer jam the following Wednesday, June 12, at 7:30 pm. The jam will also meet at BWC and will be open to all–and it will include the tunes taught in class.
