"Judaism has never been solely a religion to me. It’s a people, a culture, and a religion, kind of like a state of being. It helps me locate myself in the world."
We Will Build This World With Love
Thank you for supporting Boston Workmen's Circle!
As an organization, we are deeply committed to standing together with our allies and deepening our social justice work. In the past year we forged a new partnership with Cosecha, a movement for the permanent protection, dignity and respect for immigrants; we are working towards becoming a Sanctuary Congregation for undocumented immigrants. In the past year we partnered with our Muslim allies to put on educational programs about Islamophobia and resisting surveillance in the Muslim community. We are now offering an Active Bystander training with the ISBCC Mosque and True Story Theatre.
We are doing all this while continuing our cultural and educational programs that deepen our connection to progressive Jewish history and culture. With one hand we reach back for our grandparents and with the other we reach forward to our grandchildren: staying rooted in our history while being dynamic enough to grow and change, following the leadership of the next generation.
● Now, more than ever, we need community: In the past year we gathered hundreds of people across generations to build a meaningful community together through Shabes dinners, holiday celebrations and educational programs for people of all ages.
● Now, more than ever, we need to celebrate our culture: In the past year we reached over 100 young people ages 1-15 through our Circle Playtime, Shule and Teens Acting for Social Change programs. We Brought Yiddish to 622 people through 48 programs ranging from Yiddish sings, to vinkls, to Yiddish language classes at 4 levels. Our Yiddish chorus took over 1000 people on a musical journey about Sholem Aleichem’s life.
● Now, more than ever, we need to act for change: As a grassroots organization we follow the leadership of our member led social justice committees: Jewish Muslim relations, Acting for Racial and Economic Justice, and the Middle East Working Group. As we work to organize under the new political reality, we are starting a rapid response network to allow the BWC community to show up together when we are needed.
Today, we are asking you to get involved by supporting us with a generous contribution. At BWC we do so much with so little. We have 3 full time and 2 part time staff members. It is essential at this moment that we can focus staff time on organizing our community rather than on fundraising. In these difficult times we are doubling our efforts and we ask you to please consider doubling your donation to help further our work together for a more just world.
At High Holidays this year, our teens and young adults sang, “We will build this world with love.” We look forward to building together with you.
