Board Corner – January 2026

Dear Boston Workers Circle Community,

I have never been more grateful to be part of such a strong and rooted group of folks, coming together in our shared grief, values, and history. As things are so hard and horrible in the world, we know we need to continue to hold strong and look to the future, which is why we have been focused on our long-term health as an organization while supporting and building on the amazing work of our committees. We have been busy maintaining the fiscal health of the org as well as keeping our long-term goals and values in mind.

We are 1.5 years into of our 3-year strategic plan, and work has been going on across the org to achieve those goals. (Detailed Strategic Plan | Overview of Strategic Plan). I am particularly excited about Goal 5, supporting the organizational infrastructure. As someone who has been involved in infrastructure committees for almost ten years, supporting the long-term health of BWC and its leadership is very important to me. Last year, we had a leadership team retreat (Board, staff and committee chairs) which was very generative, and this year, we have been working with a consultant, David Schwartz, to create a leadership ladder and structures for recruitment and succession planning. All of this work is to ensure that we are around for at least another 125 years, stronger than ever!

Remember, all board meetings are open to members for observation, as are the minutes. Please reach out to me at president@circleboston.org with any questions about the Board and how we operate or how you can get involved in BWC leadership.

With gratitude,
Rachel Hess
BWC Board President
