Whether you already know some Yiddish or not, this is a chance to immerse yourself in Yiddish language, culture, and history through the rich musical tradition of Jewish class struggle! Students of music, history and Yiddish will enjoy this class. Each class, students will study Yiddish songs with the aid of written lyrics in English transliteration, discuss historical and cultural context of each one and then sing together. With chants against the police state, a socialist murder ballad, lullabies, and more, we will have plenty to discuss. We will also spend some time on pronunciation and relevant vocabulary so as to enrich the experience of both students and fans of the Yiddish language.
