Yiddish Language Class: Advanced Beginner Yiddish In-Person

October 29, 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Description

Course Description: This joyful and inclusive class is a celebration of Yiddish grammar, vocabulary, history, and culture. Join us for a weekly session where we practice conjugating verbs, declining noun phrases, and putting together increasingly-complex sentences in the ancestral mother tongue of ashkenazic jewry. Ask questions, get answers, and find camaraderie with other learners on a guided tour of the grammar and structure and culture of this wondrous Jewish language.

Level: For students who have taken a BWC Beginner course. Also open to those who already know the Yiddish aleph beys, some basic grammar & vocabulary, and who feel the class description fits their level, including those who have worked through Duolingo and feel ready to dive into more conversation and culture.

InstructorJonah Sidman

Materials: Colloquial Yiddish by Lily Kahn. Students can purchase this textbook from The Yiddish Book CenterRoutledge Textbooks, or at other on-line sites.
