Walking Tour: Roadmap to a Beloved Community

November 18, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Description

We’re excited for you to join us Saturday, November 18th, 2023 at 11am for the first event of A Roadmap to a Beloved Community: Interwoven Histories of Jewish & African American Bostonians, a collaborative project between the Afrimerican Culture Initiative Inc , Forum for Racial Equity & Justice, Hyde Park Community Input Board, and the Boston Workers Circle.

As a launching point to this project we would like bring folks together to learn about one of the intersections of this interwoven history in Dorchester. The tour will be guided by long-time local community organizer and founder of the Massachusetts Communities Action Network, Lew Finfer, we will learn about and see some of the key places of the historic Jewish community. As well Lew will talk about how the policies of redlining, yellow lining (blockbusting) and urban renewal in the neighborhood caused rifts between and across Boston’s Jewish and African American communities.

We will be meeting at 1106 Blue Hill Ave at the corner of Blue Hill Ave & Ansel Rd. Please fill out the registration form to help us get a sense of the size of the group. Space is limited for the tour, so do sign up as soon as possible!
