May Day Shabes

April 28, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Celebrate the May Day workers’ holiday with a special Shabes program conducted in Yiddish. Non-Yiddish speakers are welcome! Written English translations and transliterations will be provided for the readings and the songs.

This event is pay-what-you-can (suggested donation of $5 to $10+). Registration is required. Register here.

All registrants (in person and online) will be invited to actively participate, with the option to read aloud from the program. The written program will be provided closer to the date to those who register.  Schmoozing will begin at 6pm; the program will begin at 6:15.

The Shabes ceremony will be followed by an optional potluck dinner (and more singing) for those attending in person. If you attend the potluck, please bring food to share (your choice of a main, side, salad, or dessert dish).

If you are attending in-person:

  • everyone must be fully vaccinated against covid, including eligible boosters
  • everyone must test negative for covid on April 28 before attending the program
  • everyone must wear a mask over their nose and mouth except when eating and drinking
  • anyone who is not feeling well should not attend in person (can attend online)
  • if covid rates in the community become a concern, we will celebrate May Day Shabes online only

If you are attending online, here is a list of ritual items that we invite you to have during the ceremony:
