When children of the shtetl began their study of Jewish text, the teacher would put honey on the page to show them the sweetness of Jewish learning. Likewise, this class will explore the fun and vibrancy of Yiddish language and culture. It will introduce students to the fundamentals of Yiddish conversation, reading, and grammar through highly-interactive games, songs, activities, and short texts.
Join BWC Yiddish teacher, Sarah Biskowitz, for an In-Person Beginners Class through our partners at Lehrhaus. Participants are expected to be completely new to Yiddish but already able to recognize and know the sounds of Hebrew letters. If you do not have basic knowledge of the Hebrew alef-bet, please learn the Yiddish alef-beys here before the class. We will be using materials from In eynem: The New Yiddish Textbook. You will not be required to purchase the textbook, but it may be helpful to purchase the PDF.
Participants are expected to attend all 6 sessions. Dates: Mondays 7:30-8:45 PM on 3/3, 3/10, 3/17, 3/24, 3/31, and 4/7.
