Anyuka: A Bisl Film Screening & Art Workshop

June 6 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

In this member to member learning session, BWC member, award-winning filmmaker, animator and educator; Maya Erdelyi will explore how art can help us make sense of the family stories that were passed down to us. Maya will share her 20 minute film, Anyuka (Hungarian for mother). Anyuka interweaves super 8 family films, archival material and experimental animation to explore the indomitable life of her grandmother, a WWII refugee and Holocaust survivor. The film will be followed by a question and answer with Maya and then an opportunity to create a visual response to a family story of your own.

What is in your family history? And what are the stories that you heard again and again? What do you want to pass down to the next generation?

Attendees are invited to bring an artifact from their own ancestors as inspiration for the workshop component but this is not required.

Suggested donations of $10-$15 are invited at the door.

RSVP here.
