BWC Statement on Tufts Student Abduction

On the night of March 25th, 2025, a Fulbright scholar and Tufts graduate student, Rumeysa Ozturk, was abducted by ICE. While the full details of this case remain unknown, we do know that Rumeysa was targeted and doxxed by Canary Mission, a right wing, pro-Israel group that targets pro-Palestine activists.

For 125 years, Boston Workers Circle has taken action based on our core belief that the future of the Jewish people is bound up in a shared future with our neighbors, wherever we are. We believe the antidote to antisemitism is fighting for a world where everyone is safe, a world where everyone has what they need to thrive, and a world where everyone is free.

We are horrified to see our neighbors stripped of their fundamental rights under the guise of protecting Jewish safety. This action is antithetical to everything we stand for as a Jewish community and everything we have learned from our own history about the dangerous impact of these repressive, McCarthyist tactics. We are horrified to be witnessing these tactics being used again today in our own backyard, and we will continue taking collective action to protect all of our safety, freedom, and civil liberties.
