A Farewell Message from Julie, BWC Social Work Intern
Hello BWC Community,
The Stitch and Resist gathering put on by BWC Mutual Aid last week signified the end of my social work internship. We held a beautiful event at the building that brought many together over a shared love for fiber arts and a love for community. The event was such a success that it will become recurring! As I reflect on my time with BWC, I want to take a moment to share my deep appreciation for the guidance, support, and learning I’ve received over these past months.

One of the most powerful parts of this journey has been organizing alongside a strong and dedicated group of organizers. Together, we’ve begun to build sustainable mutual aid efforts driven by member passion and initiatives. These efforts include bereavement support, cooked meal deliveries, regular telephone check-ins, and skill-sharing among members. These practices aren’t just services, they’re acts of genuine community care that keep our community resilient and connected.
I am especially grateful to be part of an intergenerational community rooted in compassion and justice. Learning and organizing alongside elders, peers, and younger members has grounded during this especially difficult time. The wisdom, generosity, and lived experience across generations are something I carry with me and will continue to learn from.
A special thank you to the BWC staff and leadership for your thoughtful mentorship and encouragement, and for modeling what compassionate, curious, and strategic leadership looks like. I’ve learned so much about what it means to organize around shared goals and practice mutual aid in a way that centers dignity, reciprocity, and care. I’m proud of what we’ve built together and even more excited to see the life this project takes on in the future!
Thank you, BWC, for being a space of transformation, solidarity, and continued growth.
Sincerely, your fellow BWC member,
Julie Feinberg
