Support BWC, a Progressive Jewish Home

After many years of struggling to find a Jewish home, I had all but resigned myself to practicing Judaism alone. I spent so long feeling like an outsider in Jewish spaces; for coming from an interfaith family, for being a person of color, and for my progressive politics. Attending Boston Workers Circle’s Yom Kippur services last year filled me with a sense of relief and energy. It was the first time I had really felt connected to the messages in the speeches and in the conversations that followed.

I later learned that a Yiddish Labor Bund had actually helped my grandparents and mother settle in Minneapolis after they had fled from St. Petersburg in the Soviet Union as refugees in the 70s. BWC’s 124-year-old tradition as a mutual aid and cultural organization connected me to my own family’s legacy, braiding my ancestor’s need for local Jewish support and community with my own.

Today, I feel so lucky to support and be supported by this community. Events like the Post-Election Shabes helped me sort through the many emotions following the election results in November, and gave me hope for a path forward. The intergenerational community at BWC feels like an extended family, with aunts and uncles I can actually talk to about Israel/Palestine and organizing, and with nieces and nephews I know will make the world a better place.

If you’ve already contributed to this campaign, thank you so much! Your donations are greatly appreciated. So far, we’ve raised $90,000 of our $120,000 goal. If you have already given to our end-of-year campaign, thank you so much; if you haven’t yet given, a gift from you today could help us reach our goal!

Thank you,
