SUMMARY:Sustaining Life in the West Bank\, Palestine: Supporting the Work of 1for3
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE: bit.ly/SustainingLifeEvent \nPlease join Boston Workers Circle on Sunday\, May 17 from 4:00 – 6:00PM to learn about and support the humanitarian work of locally-based Palestinian organization 1for3. Since its founding in 2013\, 1for3 has worked to meet the water\, food\, education\, and health care needs of Palestinian communities in the West Bank. Especially now\, while Israeli settler violence\, apartheid legislation\, and the annexation of Palestinian land escalate rapidly\, the role of local communities in broadening awareness and building strong support for 1for3’s life-sustaining efforts has become more urgent than ever. \nDuring the event\, four local residents who participated in a 1for3 delegation to the West Bank in October 2025 will share what they witnessed and learned. They will focus on the challenges faced by Bethlehem’s Aida Refugee Camp and surrounding West Bank communities\, as well as on 1for3’s current work to restore and expand access to education and badly needed health care services. \nThe presenters include Diane Abrams from the Health for Palestine Team of 1for 3\, Ali Huda from the Design PalestineTeam; and Katherine Hanna and Ilene Carver from the Education Team of 1for3. Circumstances permitting\, Nidal al Azraq\, executive director of 1for3\, may report on his latest trip to the West Bank and provide an update on conditions there. \nA Q and A period will follow the presentations\, as well as information on how to learn more about and donate in support of 1for3’s work. \nThis is a hybrid event\, taking place at the BWC Building at 6 Webster Street in Brookline and on Zoom. (Location shared upon registration.) \nREGISTER HERE: bit.ly/SustainingLifeEvent \nQuestions? Contact: solidarityrocks2025@gmail.com. \nIf you’re unable to attend but would like to support 1for3\, donate online via BWC’s fundraising page.

SUMMARY:Learning for Liberation 5786: A Tikkun Leil Shavuot for the Jewish Left
DESCRIPTION:At a time of increasing authoritarianism in the United States\, in Israel/Palestine\, and beyond\, it can feel challenging to envision a more just world is possible where all peoples are free. Now is the time to learn from our ancestors\, elders\, and each other about how to resist through anti-fascist\, anti-authoritarian\, and anti-militaristic strategies and build a community and coalition that can sustain us. We aim to build a space for hope and action that can counteract complacency and despair. \nOur workshops will center Jewish leftist perspectives + teachings often left out of the Jewish mainstream and a commitment to liberation for Palestinians\, Jews\, and all peoples affected by systems of oppression. We commit to being a justice-oriented\, connective\, imperfect space\, for those that seek to learn and grow in community. \nRegister here. This event is a collaboration between Boston Workers Circle\, Nehar Shalom\, IfNotNow Boston\, and Kavod Boston.

SUMMARY:Singing the Yiddish Folksong: An Interactive Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to imitate the tone and inflection of unaccompanied Yiddish folksong in this deep dive workshop! Together\, we’ll listen closely to historic recordings by legendary Yiddish singer Lifshe Schaechter-Widman and examine how her artistry shaped the sound and interpretation of traditional songs. Chaia will guide participants through several of her favorite folksongs from Schaechter-Widman’s repertoire\, breaking down the stylistic elements that make these performances so distinctive. We’ll explore ornamentation\, storytelling through vocal color\, flexible rhythm\, and the subtle shifts in tone that give Yiddish folksong its expressive character. No prior experience with Yiddish or singing necessary! This is a collaboration between BWC and Lehrhaus. \nRegister here.
