SUMMARY:"Let’s Build a Room for Hope" Grief & Healing Community Care Session
DESCRIPTION:This time is marked by immense grief. From the war in Gaza\, the rise of US authoritarianism\, to personal losses\, it seems that the dissonant cycle of grief is unending. And yet\, this time also carries immense opportunities for hope – hope through community connection\, hope through radical compassion\, and hope through social action. What are you grieving in this moment? How does thinking Jewishly help you grapple with this grief? In what ways does your Jewish identity bring you into community and orient you towards hope? And how does thinking Jewishly orient you toward social action?  \nJoin us for a conversation on grief\, hope\, and healing in community led by BWC member\, Sammie M. and based on the work Let’s Build a Room for Hope by Rabbi Miriam Grossman. This event will take place at the BWC Building on Tuesday\, October 7 from 6:30 – 8:30pm. Register here. \nAbout Sammie: As a member of BWC and a current doctoral student in psychology\, Sammie is interested in liberation psychology and healing through radical compassion. She is passionate about community care and Rabbi Miriam’s writings and is grateful to be in community with BWC. \nDonation: Sammie’s Community Care sessions are a project of the BWC’s Israel Palestine Committee (IPC)\, and we are collecting voluntary donations to support the work of the IPC\, including Sammie’s sessions. Please use this Pass-the-Hat form to make a donation. When it asks what event you participated in\, choose “IPC.”

SUMMARY:Ira Khonen Temple Record Release Show
DESCRIPTION:Ira Khonen Temple Record Release ShowFeaturing Zoë Aqua and Raffi BodenCome to hear this newly translated collection of traditional Yiddish songs\, reimagined and expanded in English by Ira. This is where queer\, trans songwriting meets the urgent\, living breath of Yiddish culture. From Transylvanian dance music to protest poetry from the lost Jewish capitals of Europe\, these songs hold grief\, joy\, and radical defiance. \nIra says: “These songs we’ve inherited—about heartbreak\, about rebellion—they’re not meant to sit behind glass. They need us. They need to be sung.” A singer and tradition-bearer in the modern Yiddish revival\, Ira brings us into a soundscape where language and legacy breathe again\, not just as nostalgia\, but as cultural survival. \nGet your tickets here. Discount for Workers Circle members and friends: 24HOUR \nPre-view the album here.

SUMMARY:Block and Build: Reparations as Resistance
DESCRIPTION:Now\, more than ever\, our country needs to reckon with its past and envision a new future. What we don’t repair\, we repeat…or worse. Fascism is what can happen when a society founded on white supremacy fails to do this necessary reparative work. \nWorking for reparations is healing work. It is work that white supremacy has opposed since the reparations movement began. We can expect the current fascist regime to fight it even more forcefully\, because the work of reparations exposes the powers that keep us divided. \nRegister here to join the Reparations Interfaith Coalition in welcoming our panel of reparations activists: \nNicole Carty – Executive Director of Get Free\, a GenZ and Millennial-led movement to repair past harms\, remove ongoing barriers to equality\, and realize a future of freedom for all. \nKathleen Anderson – Female co-chair of the New England Chapter of the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America (N’COBRA) and a member of the Massachusetts Reparations Task Group. \nDavid Gardinier – Founding Member of the Fund for Reparations Now! — the white fundraising arm of the National African American Reparations Commission. \nThe Reparations Interfaith Coalition is a fiscally sponsored project of the Peace Development Fund. You can make a tax-deductible donation to the Reparations Interfaith Coalition through the Peace Development Fund via the online portal at https://bit.ly/donate2ric. Or you can send physical checks to The Peace Development Fund\, PO Box 1280\, Amherst\, MA 01004-1280. Make sure to put Reparations Interfaith Coalition in the memo line.

SUMMARY:Advanced: Shtok Shraybt Vayter: Virtual
DESCRIPTION:We will read and discuss a selection of Fradl Shtok’s writing in Yiddish\, in a supportive environment that encourages each person to speak Yiddish freely and fearlessly to the best of their ability. Students who want to listen rather than read are welcome to join the class. Her poems are crafted with skill\, precision and attention to aesthetics that juxtaposes powerfully with the unrestrained desire that many of her poems embody. Studying Shtok’s texts in Yiddish enables the reader to savor the sensuous sounds\, skillful wordplay and musicality that are central to her writing. The course will offer cover a selection of short stories\, poems and critical writing by Fradl Shtok. \nLearn more and register here.
