SUMMARY:Rebuild Sanctuary - A Tisha B’Av Action on Immigration
DESCRIPTION:As we mourn the destruction of the Temples in Jerusalem\, times of devastating loss and dislocation for the Jewish people\, we call on our leaders to actively resist the federal assault on the dignity\, safety and wellbeing of immigrants in our community. We reject the weaponization of Jewish fear into a tool for dismantling civil liberties and instead uphold the tenets of our faith that compel us to protect and stand with marginalized communities. To rebuild sanctuary in the Commonwealth\, we ask that our Massachusetts elected officials– including Governor Healey and members of the legislature– do everything in their power to protect immigrants and build a Commonwealth that upholds the dignity and safety of all people. \nParking information: We recommend using the Macy’s overflow lot (75 Burlington Mall Road\, follow signs for Macy’s). For those with mobility challenges\, there often spots in the BAE Systems lot (directly across the street from the ICE office on the other side of District Ave).  \nCo-Sponsoring Organizations include: Boston Workers Circle\, Congregation Beth El\, Congregation Beth Elohim of Acton\, Congregation B’nai Israel Tikkun Olam Committee\, Congregation Dorshei Tzedek\, Congregation Shalom\, Hillel B’nai Torah\, IfNotNow Boston\, Jewish Labor Committee of New England\, Kavod\, Kerem Shalom\, Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center\, Nehar Shalom\, Never Again Action Boston\, Sinai Brookline\, Temple Beth Elohim of Wellesley Immigration Justice Initiative\, Temple Beth Torah Social Justice Committee\, Beth Zion\, Temple Etz Chaim\, Temple Isaiah of Lexington\, Temple Israel of Boston\, Temple Shalom Newton\, Temple Shir Tikva in Wayland \nSIGN UP

SUMMARY:Fighting Antisemitism (& Its Weaponization)
DESCRIPTION:The Israel/Palestine Committee\, Acting for Racial and Economic Justice\, and the Jewish Muslim Solidarity Committee invite you to join us on Wednesday\, August 20\, 7-9 pm for a teach-in titled Fighting Antisemitism (& Its Weaponization). The teach-in\, created by Together for an Inclusive Massachusetts (TIM)\, challenges the narrative emerging from the MA Special Commission on Combating Antisemitism and argues that antisemitism is best understood within a framework of collective liberation. \nThis is a member-only\, in-person event at BWC with a virtual option. \nIt will feature a screening of a new film\, followed by discussion. Tikkun Olam Productions has filmed 6 experts\, including our own executive director\, Rebecca Zimmerman Hornstein\, and BWC member Chris MacDonald Dennis\, discussing topics that include: What is antisemitism and how is it being weaponized? What is the history of Jews’ relation to Zionism and Antizionism? How might we think about the safety of American Jews in this political moment? \nThe Special Commission will be putting out its report in November. We will discuss how we can engage with our legislators NOW to resist the weaponization of antisemitism\, the chilling of free speech\, and the suppression of the diversity of Jewish opinion. \nRegister here. \nFor more information\, contact Lynne Layton (laytonlynne22@gmail.com) or Carrie Pollack (carrie.m.pollack@gmail.com)
