SUMMARY:Advanced Brenendike Verter: Yidishe Dikhterins In Ukraine Nokh Der Revolutsye
DESCRIPTION:Level: The class is suited to advanced speakers and readers of Yiddish including students in past advanced BWC Yiddish classes.. We will discuss the poems and poets in Yiddish\, in a supportive environment that encourages each person to speak Yiddish freely and fearlessly to the best of their ability. \nMaterials:  Provided by instructor.   \nInstructor: Hinde Ena Burstin \nAvantgarde Yiddish women poets were trailblazers in the development of secular Yiddish literature in post-revolution Ukraine. The daring themes and imagery of many of their poems signified a fiery break with the restrictions of the past. In this course\, we will read a selection of these poems\, and will discuss the themes and stylistics\, as well as the biographical\, sociohistorical and literary contexts of the poems. We will explore ways that these poets transgressed gendered expectations in their subversive verse.

SUMMARY:AFREJ Learning for Action Series
DESCRIPTION:As we mark the 60 year anniversary since the Boston Workers Circle moved from Dorchester to Brookline\, the Acting For Racial and Economic Justice Committee (AFREJ) will are leading a Learning For Action series around the book\, The Death of an American Jewish Community: A Tragedy of Good Intentions. \nIn the past few years\, we in AFREJ have been learning about reparations and participating in reparative actions. As well\, we’ve co-sponsored workshops for the Ujima Fund\, a solidarity economy project led by working-class people of color that works to build political and economic power in Dorchester\, Roxbury\, Mattapan\, and Jamaica Plain. Through this work\, we have widened our concept of reparations in two ways: first\, recognizing that the Jewish exodus from and subsequent corporate and governmental disinvestment in these neighborhoods calls on us as Jews to localize our reparations work in these communities. Second\, our support for Ujima and other solidarity economy enterprises connects to our commitment to “full” reparations\, that is\, repair that transforms systems and guarantees non-repeat. \nWe began the series on November 17 and over the next 3 sessions — through a combination of group discussions of the book and guest presenters that will provide more historical and current context of this text — we hope to deepen our understanding of what happened in these communities and how we can continue to support their political and economic empowerment. \nBWC is a member-run community which means we can’t do this work without you! Please contribute any amount you are comfortable with at http://bit.ly/bwcpassthehat. When you access the link type AFREJ L4A in the Other box in the first section. Your donations will go towards providing an honorarium for both of our guest speakers! \nRegister Here: bit.ly/afrejl4a
