SUMMARY:Sumud: A Doctor's Report on Genocide & Survival in Gaza
DESCRIPTION:BWC is a cosponsor in the upcoming screening of  “Sumud: A Doctor’s Report on Genocide & Survival in Gaza\,” a short\, new documentary which follows an American anesthesiologist who volunteered in Gaza. It features  commentary from journalist and writer Omar el Akkad\, whose “One Day\, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This” just won the National Book Award. The film speaks to the genocide in Gaza\, and\, most particularly\, to the destruction of hospitals and medical care systems there.  \nThe film will be introduced by its director\, Jan Haaken\, who along with special guest Dr. Karameh Kuemmerle\, cofounder of Doctors Against Genocide\, will engage with the audience afterward.  \nThis event will be a fundraiser for two important organizations: Doctors Against Genocide and the Gaza Mental Health Foundation. There will be time for discussion. Hasia’s presentation on the History of Jewish Opposition to Zionism is relevant to today’s political situation where opposition to Zionism is being equated with antisemitism by government bodies such as the Massachusetts Special Commission on Combatting Antisemitism and the Trump Administration.  \nHasia Diner is Professor Emerita at the Departments of History and the Skirball Department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies at New York University and has published numerous books and papers.
