SUMMARY:Mothers' Day Walk for Peace
DESCRIPTION:We are gathering a BWC team to walk in the 28th annual Mothers’ Day Walk for Peace\, sponsored by the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute in Dorchester.  The Walk is on Sunday\, May 12 (Mothers Day)\, 8:00 – 10:00 am and will be a 4.3 mile loop\, beginning and ending at Town Field Park in Dorchester.  This is a family event\, and can be a meaningful way to help celebrate Mothers’ Day. \nLast year\, BWC was represented by about 25 walkers\, joining several thousand people from faith organizations\, healthcare organizations\, and community groups in this spirited collective endeavor. We aim to match last year’s successful fundraising\, in which we exceeded our initial $1500 goal to reach $2200 in donations.   \nThe Peace Institute was founded by Dorchester resident Chaplain Clementina Chéry to honor her teenage son Louis D. Brown\, who was murdered in the crossfire of street violence.  The Walk is the major fundraiser for the Institute\, whose mission is to serve as a center of healing\, teaching\, and learning for families and communities impacted by murder\, trauma\, grief\, and loss. \nRegister Here.

DESCRIPTION:Join AFREJ on Sunday\, March 26th at 7 PM for a screening of Holding Ground: The Rebirth of Dudley Street\, the award-winning documentary about a cautionary tale of urban policies gone wrong and a message of hope for all American cities produced and directed by Leah Mahan and Mark Lipman.  \nFor those who want to watch the film beforehand you can purchase it for personal use for 3 days for 6.99 on New Day Films website or stream it through your local public library through Kanopy. We ask that you please contribute any amount you are comfortable with at http://bit.ly/bwcpassthehat so that we can provide an honorarium to our guest speakers and to support our work. SUMMARY:AFREJ Learning for Action Series
DESCRIPTION:As we mark the 60 year anniversary since the Boston Workers Circle moved from Dorchester to Brookline\, the Acting For Racial and Economic Justice Committee (AFREJ) will are leading a Learning For Action series around the book\, The Death of an American Jewish Community: A Tragedy of Good Intentions. \nIn the past few years\, we in AFREJ have been learning about reparations and participating in reparative actions. As well\, we’ve co-sponsored workshops for the Ujima Fund\, a solidarity economy project led by working-class people of color that works to build political and economic power in Dorchester\, Roxbury\, Mattapan\, and Jamaica Plain. Through this work\, we have widened our concept of reparations in two ways: first\, recognizing that the Jewish exodus from and subsequent corporate and governmental disinvestment in these neighborhoods calls on us as Jews to localize our reparations work in these communities. Second\, our support for Ujima and other solidarity economy enterprises connects to our commitment to “full” reparations\, that is\, repair that transforms systems and guarantees non-repeat. \nWe began the series on November 17 and over the next 3 sessions — through a combination of group discussions of the book and guest presenters that will provide more historical and current context of this text — we hope to deepen our understanding of what happened in these communities and how we can continue to support their political and economic empowerment. \nBWC is a member-run community which means we can’t do this work without you! Please contribute any amount you are comfortable with at http://bit.ly/bwcpassthehat. When you access the link type AFREJ L4A in the Other box in the first section. Your donations will go towards providing an honorarium for both of our guest speakers! \nRegister Here: bit.ly/afrejl4a
