SUMMARY:Adult Ed Course: Session 1
DESCRIPTION:Adult Ed Course: We Carry This In our Bodies: Navigating Family\, Trauma\, and Israel/Palestine\nAt a time when conversations about Israel/Palestine are deeply charged\, many of us struggle to stay in relationship with loved ones whose perspectives differ from our own. Drawing on somatic practices\, historical context\, and scenario planning\, we’ll practice approaches for meaningful\, values-aligned conversations—along with tools for setting boundaries and caring for ourselves in the process. \nREGISTER HERE. \nCourse Sessions:All classes will be held in person at the BWC Building located at 6 Webster Street in Brookline\, MA. \nAll students are required to attend session #1\, but can choose which of the other sessions they attend. \nSession #1 – November 5 | 7-8:30PM: Diving into My Grandmother’s Hands as a source for healing Jewish trauma \nSession #2 – November 12 | 7-8:30PM: Understanding our own narratives and voices\, beginning to practice our fears \nSession #3: November 19 | 7-8:30PM: Scenario planning\, practice\, and closure (or non-closure)

SUMMARY:Advanced: Shtok Shraybt Vayter: Virtual
DESCRIPTION:We will read and discuss a selection of Fradl Shtok’s writing in Yiddish\, in a supportive environment that encourages each person to speak Yiddish freely and fearlessly to the best of their ability. Students who want to listen rather than read are welcome to join the class. Fradl Shtok (1890-1990) is an enigmatic and captivating writer of passionate poems\, sharply observed short stories\, and illuminating literary essays. Her short stories capture the nuances of shtetl and immigrant life\, peeling away the layers with revealing\, ironic perceptions. Shtok’s piercing poems – including her groundbreaking sonnets – are an innovation in Yiddish literature. Her poems are crafted with skill\, precision and attention to aesthetics that juxtaposes powerfully with the unrestrained desire that many of her poems embody. Studying Shtok’s texts in Yiddish enables the reader to savor the sensuous sounds\, skillful wordplay and musicality that are central to her writing. The course will offer cover a selection of short stories\, poems and critical writing by Fradl Shtok. \nLearn more and register here.
