SUMMARY:Block and Build: Reparations as Resistance
DESCRIPTION:Now\, more than ever\, our country needs to reckon with its past and envision a new future. What we don’t repair\, we repeat…or worse. Fascism is what can happen when a society founded on white supremacy fails to do this necessary reparative work. \nWorking for reparations is healing work. It is work that white supremacy has opposed since the reparations movement began. We can expect the current fascist regime to fight it even more forcefully\, because the work of reparations exposes the powers that keep us divided. \nRegister here to join the Reparations Interfaith Coalition in welcoming our panel of reparations activists: \nNicole Carty – Executive Director of Get Free\, a GenZ and Millennial-led movement to repair past harms\, remove ongoing barriers to equality\, and realize a future of freedom for all. \nKathleen Anderson – Female co-chair of the New England Chapter of the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America (N’COBRA) and a member of the Massachusetts Reparations Task Group. \nDavid Gardinier – Founding Member of the Fund for Reparations Now! — the white fundraising arm of the National African American Reparations Commission. \nThe Reparations Interfaith Coalition is a fiscally sponsored project of the Peace Development Fund. You can make a tax-deductible donation to the Reparations Interfaith Coalition through the Peace Development Fund via the online portal at https://bit.ly/donate2ric. Or you can send physical checks to The Peace Development Fund\, PO Box 1280\, Amherst\, MA 01004-1280. Make sure to put Reparations Interfaith Coalition in the memo line.

SUMMARY:Advanced: Shtok Shraybt Vayter: Virtual
DESCRIPTION:We will read and discuss a selection of Fradl Shtok’s writing in Yiddish\, in a supportive environment that encourages each person to speak Yiddish freely and fearlessly to the best of their ability. Students who want to listen rather than read are welcome to join the class. Fradl Shtok (1890-1990) is an enigmatic and captivating writer of passionate poems\, sharply observed short stories\, and illuminating literary essays. Her short stories capture the nuances of shtetl and immigrant life\, peeling away the layers with revealing\, ironic perceptions. Shtok’s piercing poems – including her groundbreaking sonnets – are an innovation in Yiddish literature. Her poems are crafted with skill\, precision and attention to aesthetics that juxtaposes powerfully with the unrestrained desire that many of her poems embody. Studying Shtok’s texts in Yiddish enables the reader to savor the sensuous sounds\, skillful wordplay and musicality that are central to her writing. The course will offer cover a selection of short stories\, poems and critical writing by Fradl Shtok. \nLearn more and register here.
