A Bisl: Letters That You Will Not Get: Women’s Voice from the Great War

Online, on Zoom

Letters That You Will Not Get: Women’s Voice from the Great War, led by Susan Werbe

Saturday, May 16, 2:00pm EST

I will share an excerpt from the 2018 premiere of this song cycle, based on women’s writings from both sides of the conflict in WWI, to explore how interested BWC members might collaborate to create our own performance piece that tells the early history of the community.  Using letters, memoirs, diaries, and poetry, as well as Yiddish songs from the same period, we have the opportunity to learn more about our roots and create a joyous experience to share with our community.

Led by Susan Werbe. Susan is an independent scholar who focuses on social and cultural history and has recently worked with artists to create performance pieces that highlight individuals' responses to World War I, using original writings from men and women from both sides of the conflict. Susan has an ongoing interest in working collaboratively to explore other historical periods through the lens of art.
