Shule - Children's Educational Program

Our secular supplemental school – the Shule -- provides children in grades K-1 through 7 with a unique combination of Jewish cultural literacy and progressive cultural literacy. Shule meets on Sunday mornings approximately twice a month. The curriculum emphasizes Jewish history, culture and traditions that shape our identity and values as a people.

We are proud to be a school community where whatever your Jewish background, whatever the faith, ethnic, or gender diversity of your family, children and parents feel welcome and participate fully at all levels of the organization.

Here’s what some of our families have to say:

“Our celebrating Shabbat and holidays together at home I think was tremendously important along with Shule and the Workmen’s Circle for our kids to be able to hang their hat on something regular that was an expression of us being Jewish as a family."

“I think kids, especially in the early teens, are really trying to identify themselves with religion or something that is easy to belong to. The community aspect of religion becomes very important and I think that the Workmen’s Circle offered me that, so I didn’t feel the need to go anywhere else.”
– Shule graduate

“My grandparents were immigrants from Eastern Europe . I regret that my son never had the chance to meet them and I saw the Shule as a perfect way to acquaint my child with his cultural heritage.”

“I never considered seeking Jewish community for myself. It was for the kids. But what I found is a warm, down-to-earth community where I feel I belong.”

“Our kids were going to the Boston public schools and there were very few Jewish kids. The Shule made our kids feel comfortable being Jewish. That has been very important to me."

When you choose a Jewish educational program for your child you are also choosing a Jewish community for your family. We encourage you to explore the full website. And we encourage you to attend a variety of community events as you make your choice about your child’s Jewish education.
