Beginner II
This course is a continuation of the fall Beginner class. New students are welcome to join if they already know the alphabet and some basic vocabulary. Using Sheva Zuker's texbook "Yiddish: An Introduction to the Language", songs and other multi-media materials, students will continue to learn to read in Yiddish, basic conversation skills and elementary grammar.
Instructor: Rachel Cylus
Advanced Beginner II
Perfect for those who have already taken an introductory Yiddish class, this course is designed for those who are already able to read simple Yiddish and who have familiarity with basic grammar such as present, past and future tenses. Using the textbook "College Yiddish", the focus will be on building conversational vocabulary, strengthening grammar and further developing reading skills.
Instructor: Abby Howell Miller
Intermediate
Students will read abridged, annotated stories by authors such as Sholem Aleykhem, I.L. Peretz and Sholem Ash; some with the aid of English translations. Yiddish newspaper "The Forvetz" will also be used to examine contemporary non-literary Yiddish. Classes will focus on discussing content, reviewing grammar difficulties, and use of idioms. Discussions will be in Yiddish with just enough English to ensure that everyone understands both the material and the conversation.
Instructor: Lillian Shporer Leavitt
