Culture & Education | Overview Culture & Education Overview
Jewish identity is shaped and enriched by our connection to thousands of years of Jewish history and culture. The sounds, the tastes, the traditions, the ideals have deep meaning and resonance whether we identify as a religious or secular Jew.
Together at the Workmen’s Circle we grapple with questions of historical experience, values, and identity that challenge our thinking. And the music, literature, and art endure as a source of inspiration and creativity.
Our success at building authentic and lasting secular Jewish community at the Workmen’s Circle will be strengthened by a foundation of Jewish and progressive literacy.
What our members say:
“I think Judaism has really helped me to locate myself in the world. My family has assimilated over the past three generations. Still, that link and that history, grounded by the Workmen’s Circle, has given me a starting place of sorts.”
“Judaism has never been solely a religion to me. It’s been a people, a culture, and a religion, kind of like a state of being I guess. I always suspected that my parents weren‘t truly religious in a certain way. Nonetheless, we were definitely culturally Jewish.”
“I don’t speak Yiddish and I never will. But I really like the way the language is folded into everyday activities and holidays at the Workmen’s Circle. It adds a level of authenticity, a connection to an important heritage.”
