An informal gathering to sing Yiddish folk songs. Songbooks are provided. All are welcome, regardless of singing ability or knowledge of Yiddish.

Advanced Yiddish Reading Group

Students will read stories by a variety of Yiddish authors, translating and discussing content in class (in Yiddish). Writing styles of authors will be compared and contrasted. Reading fluency required; willingness to converse in Yiddish encouraged.  

Intermediate Yiddish Class

Students will read short stories by a variety of Yiddish authors.  English translations and/or glossaries will be available.  Students should be familiar with Yiddish language, somewhat fluent in reading, and comfortable using Yiddish dictionaries.  Grammatical constructions and idiomatic expressions will be explored as they occur in readings. 

Beginner II Yiddish Class

Beginner II:  This is a continuation of our fall beginner session.  Newcomers who know the Yiddish alphabet and who can read and write simple sentences in the present tense are encouraged to join. Yiddish reading, conversation skills and grammar will be taught using a textbook, songs and other multi-media materials, to keep the class interactive and lively.  Instructor:  Max Edwards.

Beginner Yiddish Class

Learn Yiddish reading, conversation skills and elementary grammar.  This course will suit you whether you’re totally new to Yiddish or if you already know a few basics.  Familiarity with the Hebrew alef-beys recommended; students who don't yet know the Jewish alphabet will be asked to come to class a half hour early for the first few sessions.  A textbook, songs and other multi-media materials will be used.
