This course offers an environment for young and/or queer people to get started in learning Yiddish. This class is intended for students who have no prior knowledge of Yiddish or want to refresh their beginner knowledge. We will going over the Yiddish alphabet and start constructing simple sentences. All materials will be provided by the instructor. Every class will feature songs and other media materials to give students a taste of Yiddish culture.
Advanced Beginner (Tues nights): Designed for students who already have some elementary Yiddish reading, writing and speaking, this course will help you build conversational vocabulary, strengthen your grammar and develop reading skills.
Intermediate (Tues nights): Students will build on their knowledge of Yiddish through reading and translating prose, poetry and songs, with opportunity to hear Yiddish music by popular artists. Various grammatical points will be highlighted and explained in context of material used. Students should be somewhat proficient in reading and comfortable using Yiddish dictionaries.
Through political action, relationship building and community education, the BWC Jewish Muslim Relations Committee works to foster positive ties between Jews and Muslims in Greater Boston and joins with the Muslim community in opposing Islamophobia in all its manifestations.
