Worker Justice and Celebration at Purim!

What a weekend of raucous and riotous Purim celebration! Our 7th annual Gragger/Noisemaker! was a great success. On Saturday night 350 attendees danced up a storm in a rowdy call for justice for fast food workers, to music from Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band, DJ Lady Spindrift, and DJ Univers-Al. The Purim spiel highlighted fast food workers' Fight for $15, and culminated with an ask from MassUniting to participate in an upcoming action at a McDonald's. The night also featured a costume contest and a photo booth - a good time was had by all! More photos will be available soon on our Facebook page.

Special thanks to our many fabulous Gragger volunteers and the following vendors who donated to the event: Samuel Adams (Boston Beer Co.), Anna's Taqueria, When Pigs Fly, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Shaws, and Otto's Pizza.

And on Sunday at the Shule Purim Carnival, the Gimel (3rd grade) class performed a fabulous Purim Spiel, retelling he traditional holiday story to focus on the struggles of fast food workers. The spiel denounced King Burger's Haman-inspired plan to deprive his subjects - workers in his fast food empire - of their right to a living wage. The spiel was followed by a riotous carnival, run by the Zayin (7th grade) class, with games such as eat-a-donut-on-a-string and throw-the-sponge-at-Haman. Shule students also collected new school supplies to donate to Cradles to Crayons.

This year's spiel featured giant puppets, made by 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Shule students...
