“There are a lot of organizations doing political organizing, but I think we’re working on something different here in terms of talking about it as a community. It really struck home for me when we had the Shabbat dinner for gay and lesbian marriage.”
Fun and Festive Nights: Auction and Gragger!
What a weekend at Boston Workmen's Circle!
Friday night was our bi-annual 100 Ways to Get Away Auction - rescheduled due to the blizzard earlier this month. Our building was transformed with twinkle lights and palm tree decorations, and festive bidders packed the halls to vie for vacation-related items of all sorts. Our fabulous auctioneer, David Silverman, was charming and debonair as usual in his white tuxedo, and kept the live auction vibrant and competitive. The evening was full of great community feeling, and it was extra-hamish to be in our own building (though as always, we're sorry to not have had more space!)
Thanks to all our wonderful donors and volunteers, without whom this event could never have happened, and especially to our auction committee, Laura D., Joy S., and Linda C. And we're sorry that Sasha had to miss it, after all her hard work!
The Junior Auction Action Team sells raffle tickets during the silent auction.

And on Saturday night - Gragger/Noisemaker 2013! The night was an incredible success, with great turnout, a rollicking performance by Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band, and a smash-hit of a Shpiel. Although we got a late start in organizing this year, many of our young-adult leaders stepped up to make this event what it was - with particular thank-you's due to Leah M. and Riva P. The night began with dance music from DJ MC, which segued into the foot-stomping, Hora-inducing Emperor Norton's.
Afterwards, Stephanie and Ben - our amazing Masters of Ceremony - got people laughing with a hilarious sketch about pledging a Workmen's Circle Frat called Hamantashen Humantashen Humantashen....That's Tri-Tash, for short! This lead to our Shpiel, which included two dance numbers, amazing costuming, and an inspiring call to action in the name of Immigration Justice. The night concluded with DJ D'hana, who helped keep us dancing until well after midnight.
Thank you to everyone who made this years Gragger!/Noisemaker a rockin' success!
